About John P McPhillips, D.D.S., M.D.

Surgeon at Bedford Associates In Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Dr John McPhillips was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Delta College and Saginaw Valley State College for undergraduate studies. He attended the University of Detroit Dental School and graduated in 1987 in the top 10% of his class. Still eager for knowledge and a deep rooted sense for “love of country”, he joined the United States Air Force in 1987 and completed a 1 year General Practice Dental Residency at Barksdale Air Force Base Louisiana.

His specialty training had to be delayed for “Air Force needs” as he practiced General Dentistry in San Antonio for 5 years with emphasis on Oral Surgery procedures. While practicing in the Air Force he found the one specialty that challenged his mind and artistic ability.

Dr McPhillips started his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) training in 1993 at Wilford Hall Medical Center Lackland Air Force base Texas and graduated in 1999. His OMFS training was especially strong in dental surgery, dental implant surgery, cosmetic facial surgery, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma surgery, and anesthesia services.

While in residency he also completed his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and graduated in 1997. He completed his General Surgery medical internship in San Antonio and completed rotations in Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery, General Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

This wide range of specialties has allowed Dr McPhillips to treat complex major facial surgery patients and provide full scope OMFS services as a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon since 2001.

Dr McPhillips has trained numerous OMFS residents and General Dentist residents over the years in Air Force and civilian training programs.

Dr (Colonel) McPhillips retired from the United States Air Force in September 2009 after 22 years of outstanding service.

Private practice has been a long time ambition for Dr McPhillips who is now providing outstanding service to his patient’s in Northeast Tarrant County.
